What is Smarty App?
Smarty is a taxi application developed by the creators of the Clever Taxi app, acquired in 2017 by myTaxi and later transformed into Free Now Romania.
In addition to the advanced technology of the application, which allows customers to quickly find an online taxi to safely reach their destination, Smarty App is also the first application that enables payment for rides through four methods: cash, card, cryptocurrencies, and corporate (for accounts specifically dedicated to companies/business accounts).
The urban mobility platform Smarty is a revolutionary solution for the taxi market in Romania, with the application launching in December 2022. This launch occurred in the context of a major player in the mobility industry recently leaving Romania, leaving a significant portion of the taxi demand uncovered. It was a perfect moment for the emergence of a modern application to fill the void left by the departure of a major player from the market.
Nationally, Smarty App already has several thousand drivers enrolled in the system, all accepting payment with card, cash, or cryptocurrencies and ready to fulfill passenger requests.
In which cities can I use the Smarty App?
You can use the Smarty App taxi application, available for both Android and iOS phones (iPhone and iPad), to order a taxi in Bucharest, as well as a taxi in Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Iasi, Sibiu, Constanta, Oradea, Timisoara, Craiova, Targu-Mures, Suceava, and in other major cities throughout Romania.
Who developed the Smarty App platform?
The technical development team of the Smarty platform has over 10 years of experience in the field of mobility applications. One of the founders of Smarty App is also one of the founders of Clever Tech, the company that launched Clever Taxi more than a decade ago, the first and most beloved taxi application in Romania. Clever Taxi was the subject of one of the most successful exits in the mobile app business in 2017 when it was acquired by MyTaxi (later known as Free Now Romania). At that time, over 40 million taxi rides had already been booked through Clever Taxi in 20 cities across Romania.
What is our mission?
We believe that technology can work hand in hand with the experience of taxi drivers and can radically transform the mobility industry in Romania, especially at a time when there is a pressing need for this. The increasing daily demand for urban mobility is driving the emergence of new technologies and solutions for transportation, and we want Smarty to be a one-stop-shop for people's transportation needs.
The platform's developing company, Smarty Ride Tech, aims to bring the concept of MaaS (Mobility as a Service) to the market in the long term, in the form of a mobility club, where passengers will have access to multimodal transportation with taxis, scooters, bicycles, electric cars, and where the community actively participates in developing the transportation network with their own devices. Trotinescu, a service present in the platform but not yet launched, will allow individuals and companies to put their own fleet of scooters or bicycles on the streets to be rented through the platform. Additionally, Smarty is considering expanding into the rental segment of electric cars and self-driving cars.
